Priesthood
After entering the Old Seminary Chapel, Makarios was anointed as a deacon on February 23, 1952. He was later ordained a priest in September of 1952 in Madras at the Saint Thomas Cathedral.
Once, Mar Makarios entered into priesthood he was sent to Delhi. There was only one Indian Orthodox church in Delhi at that time and it was a very small one with few members. It was here that Mar Makarios began his work. He worked from the Delhi YMCA, in a small room which also served as his living quarters. Under his thoughtfulness and teachings, the church in Delhi steadily grew and it was in this manner that he was given the opportunity to come to the U.S.
