Family Life
H. G. Dr. Thomas Mar Makarios was born on February 26, 1926 in South India into an Indian Orthodox family. He was the oldest son of A.T. and Mariamma Chacko and had five younger siblings. His family is noteworthy for their contributions to the church - he was not the only one who went into the clergy, as two of his brothers also entered into priesthood, one is a Ramban and the other is a Cor-Episcopa. His sister also entered into the holy ministry, she is a nun at the Bethany Convent.
